UK medical expertise

UK private hospitals and NHS hospitals that treat private patients from abroad offer medical expertise in many areas of healthcare. If you are having a standard procedure, such as cosmetic surgery, a hip replacement, or cardiac surgery, you have a wide choice of hospitals and clinics all over the UK.

The UK private healthcare system also has dedicated centres that concentrate on treatments and procedures that are more complex and bespoke. These are mainly based in and around London, and consultants who work privately also work within world-class specialist departments in NHS hospitals in the capital.

UK medical expertise in orthopaedics

Consultants in orthopaedics in the UK are highly trained and have a wealth of medical expertise in all types of orthopaedic surgery, including:

  • Hip replacement surgery and hip resurfacing
  • Hand and wrist surgery – such as relieving carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Knee replacement surgery
  • Shoulder and elbow surgery
  • Surgery to treat sports injuries
  • Foot and ankle surgery, including Achilles tendon repair

Orthopaedic affiliations

Orthopaedic surgeons are registered with the UK General Medical Council as orthopaedic specialists, and are often affiliated with well respected organisations such as the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, the British Hip Society, the European Foot and Ankle Society and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Membership of any of these societies indicates that the medical expertise of the surgeon has been recognised by his or her peers.
